Walks in Naples with a personal guide

Naples is the most atmospheric Italian city. Some call it mafia, others admire its baroque temples and luxurious palaces. The entire historic centre of Naples is a UNESCO cultural heritage site, so it will be interesting for a curious tourist to get around it accompanied by a English-speaking guide.

What is Naples known for? For its proximity to the legendary volcano – Vesuvius, which completely destroyed the city of Pompeii. Its peak rises above the Gulf of Naples. You can get close to the crater as part of a sightseeing tour and walk along the ruins of destroyed streets, villas and aqueducts of Pompeii. Excurzilla advises you to go here in the first place.

The city itself is no less interesting. There are many historical monuments, museums, galleries:

  • Castel dell'Ovo castle on the island of Santa Lucia;
  • Naples Cathedral of Saint Januarius – patron saint of Naples;
  • Royal Palace;
  • Galleria Umberto I;
  • Piazza del Municipio;
  • Catacombs of Saint Gaudiosus, San Gennaro, San Severo;
  • Cappella Sansevero;
  • Castel Nuovo;
  • Castel Sant'Elmo;
  • Palace of Capodimonte;
  • Royal Theatre of Saint Charles.

Actually the whole center of Naples consists of atmospheric streets, small shops, interesting buildings. There are historical monuments on every corner, which a good personal guide won't allow you to miss. Outwardly unremarkable cafes keep centuries-old history, so they are certainly worth a visit. For example, in one of these seemingly unremarkable pizzerias, the world-famous Margarita pizza was born.

When planning your sightseeing program, you should not limit yourself to just visiting Naples, because there are also many interesting places nearby. You can take a car ride along the Amalfi Coast, see the sights of Ravello, Sorrento and Positano or do the same on a water tour. You can also take a sea cruise to the island of Capri, exploring the picturesque beaches of the Tyrrhenian Sea on the way.

You can't come to Naples without paying attention to gastronomy: try the best pizza in the world at an affordable price, go tasting fine wines or take part in a master class in making traditional Neapolitan pasta.
