Antalya is primarily associated with beach vacation, but the history of this Turkish city dates back more than 2000 years. At different times the ancient Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans ruled here.

There are ruins of the ancient cities of Aspendos, Perge, Termessos not far from the city. Aspendos has an ancient amphitheatre in a good state of preservation with excellent acoustics. Perge gives an insight into what the ancient city looked like in the 12-10 centuries B.C.E.
