Milan Cathedral: excursions and tickets

Even in Italy, which is extremely rich in architectural monuments, the Milan Cathedral stands out for its beauty and grandiosity: only the St. Peter's Basilica is bigger than it. It is not surprising that the construction of the temple lasted more than four hundred years. The foundation stone of the cathedral was laid in 1386, but the facade was completed in 1813. During the excursion English-speaking guide is sure to tell you what role Napoleon has played in the fate of the cathedral and lead to the roof where you can enjoy an unsurpassed view of Milan (by the way, you need separate ticket to get to it, and it is better to order it as the ticket to the cathedral via Excurzilla to jump the queue). When exploring the interiors of the Cathedral, pay special attention to:

  • the statue of Gold Madonna that is patron saint of Milan;
  • nail over the altar (according to legend this is one of the nails used for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ);
  • tomb of Gian Giacomo Medici;
  • stained-glass windows of the 15th century;
  • the statue of St. Bartholomew, made in the 16th century

If you have time, also visit the museum and treasury of the cathedral, where authentic relics of the 4th-7th centuries are stored among other things.
