Republic of Alanya

Speaking about the Republic of Alania, travelers immediately mention the City of the Dead, Fiagdon or the ethnic settlements of the North Ossetian Reserve. This is not entirely fair, since a tour of the 15th region should begin with its capital famous in battles. It is bizarrely cut by the Terek - the watershed of the center and east of the Caucasus.

Northern half

Most Russians enter the historical capital of the Ossetians from the north (the bus station is located on the Arkhon Ring, the Vladikavkaz station is on Markov Street). Walking around the local quarters you find:

- Fountain Square (beginning of Vladikavkazskaya Street);
- Church of the Nativity of the Virgin;
- Moskovskaya Street (the majority of shopping centers are located here);
- Moscow highway (location of the Victory Park);
- Komsomolsky park on Pushkinskaya;
- City Museum on Marx Street;
- Cinema "Druzhba" (built in the "ATM-bazaar-shop" place);
- Mira Avenue (the only fully historical street with access to the Costa Khetagurov park).

South part

Thanks to this sector, the main "mountain gates of the Russian Empire" were among the three most beautiful cities of the ancient Caucasus. To the south of the geographical center - in the area of the republican theater and Barbashov Street - a lot of architecture in the style of "Empire", "Modern" and "Stalin classicism" has been preserved.

Tourists will be pleasantly surprised by the wide avenues, large squares, indented by the tram tracks of the quarter (smoothly turning into the private sector), as well as 10 monuments that adorn the Terek embankment from two sides - at General Pliev Square and at the Government House. On the same spot you can find the "business card" of the city - the "jumping" figure of Issa Pliev. Not far away is a reconstructed fortress-like Gregorian church and the colorful Sunni mosque of Mukhtarov.

At the southern exits, the Memorial of Glory (stop "Walk of Glory" on Costa Avenue) and the monument "Gone with the Glacier" in memory of the victims of 2002 (southern end of Kirova Street in the suburb of Gizel) are found.

What to drink and where to eat

In the heat, the national drink of Ossetians can be called beer - "narton". We are talking about a drink containing 2.5 degrees of alcohol. It is called the most delicious kvass in the world.

Buy Ossetian pies (round sychins and pychins) in small (family) ready-made food shops. By weight (inexpensive) here you can buy any yummy.
